You Kept Bill Clinton From Helping The Gays
Last night Bill Clinton was in Pittsburgh delivering an address to the attendees of the Blognerd Convention, when a rude gentleman interrupted him and demanded he justify "Don't Ask Don't Tell" and the Defense of Marriage Act. After a humorous remark about health care town halls, the former President launched into a passionate defense of the actions he took on both those issues. It's amazing: I had never really understood until now what a firm supporter of the gay community Bill Clinton really was. If only all those terrible people hadn't prevented him from acting upon his convictions, we'd be living in a very different world right now.

When Bill Clinton started his presidency, I saw a dozen guys get beat up in the streets of lower Manhattan for being "faggots." What chance would those goys have had at Ft Bragg in 1992?
I meant "guys."
Insert "Gay Jews in the Military" joke here.
I always assumed Bill Clinton was actually a supporter of, and very comfortable with, gay people; as he is someone who is very secure with his own sexuality.
I'd be more down with the sentiment if the stupid-ass HuffPo blogger was not acting like a major dick in public and raising issues that even the Current President has pushed aside. Also, I heard Clinton address these very issues standing on top of a stagecoach in Dallas before about 30 people in 25 degree weather, and the answer was much more civilized. He just got made here. Anyway, get a life a-hole blogger, and quit trolling for publicity and page views on very old news.
I feel like the story was different when I read his autobiography. Were I not at the office (bitter), I'd pull it and check the index.
'pull it and check the index' – so vulgar, rod.
Oh, Bill, I try to dislike you but then you go and casually use words like "devilment."
The way I remember it is pretty much as Bill tells it. The democrats lost congress at the midterms and it all went to hell. Not as if the democrats were even slightly united on The Gays at that point either; they're democrats after all.
Clinton made a big deal about signing it in the dead of night because he was allegedly so embarrassed by being forced to do so. Then he went and took out ads on small-market Christian radio stations boasting about signing DOMA. Those lasted until activists got wind of them and made him pull them.
He's a two-faced SOB and deserves to be called out on it at every opportunity.
Agreed. He is a good politician but this so often runs counter to being a good leader, or human being.
He may like gays but he is too morally flexible to stand up for them when it counts. He likes poor people too but he still screwed them with welfare reform.
Like so many issues that required a real backbone, when push came to shove on DOMA and DADT Clinton was basically spineless.
However, it takes some balls to blame this on the gays not supporting HIM enough. He even brought out the angry finger jab [insert Monica Lewinsky joke here].
Oh Silly Angry Gay Blogger, you can't ask Clinton to take responsibility for his decisions. Don't you know that nothing is EVER Bill's fault?
Hasn't anyone seen Platoon?
Boy he looks tired. Is he ok?
