There is a new Sharon Olds poem in today's New Yorker! I can't decide yet if I like it or not. For one thing it is about 100 words shorter than her normal length and for another it is a "conceit" poem (as opposed to I guess a sort of narrative poem) and this is not usually my favorite thing. And yet still maybe good!

Quite quixotically quotidian.
Is this "high concept" poetry? It's... "cute"
Cute is the word, except for the serious turn at the end, which the poet seems obliged to pull from - almost - nowhere.
Another word that comes to mind is "labored".
Well, it is New Yorker... So it's kinda' like the special olympics of poetry. Everyone is a winner. We clap for the inspirational efforts.
Funny, sad, and true. And not only of the New Yorker.
"lolling" had me audibly chuckling.
Olds is the Maureen Dowd of poetry. Great in the 80's. Nothing to say now.
