Luxury Retailer on Madison Expanding Massively Instead of Shuttering

No seriously, this is what's on the cornerGuess what's currently wrapped in exciting packaging on the corner of 62nd and Madison? Yes, another Hermes store-across the street from the Hermes store!

This one will be all men's; four stories of, you know, one shearling coat with too many zippers and then some really, really nice socks. (Also a really cute super-thin stripey blue windbreaker, made from about three feet of cloth, now at an adorable end-of-summer price of $895 or something.)

How is the luxury retailer doing? Well, we knew they'd had a monster 2nd quarter-but did you know they've partnered to make a helicopter so rich people can bypass airport traffic in Tokyo? We did not think anyone would use it when we first heard about it but then we had forgotten about Japan.

Thank God. I'm still riding peasants in last year's saddle. Also, I'm running low on cashmere boxer shorts.

No need to replace annually-- like the peasants, those gorgeous saddles can take a beating.

The 2009 Fall/Winter Hermes shearling coat is only $14,000 (up ~16% from last year). No doubt that few were made, so if you don't want to be disappointed that they don't have your size, buy it before the end of August.

Are they going to light a fire under the people who make the Birkin bags?

It's times like these that I wish I believed in a vengeful God.
