'Harvey' Remake Tops List Of Utterly Unnecessary Films

There's not much of a point in getting upset about remakes of classic movies; you might as well accept that it's going to happen and remind yourself that whatever new spin is put on a treasured favorite, it doesn't in any way diminish the original. Still, I'm a little, I dunno, peeved by the news that Steven Spielberg is looking to remake Harvey, the classic Donnie Darko precursor which sits right up there near the top of my personal ten best list. Variety suggests Tom Hanks and Will Smith are being approached to fill Jimmy Stewart's shoes-and really, could it be anyone other than Hanks? Viggo Mortensen, perhaps-but whoever winds up doing it, there's no way they'll come anywhere near Stewart's indelible performance. And on that, you may quote me.

What hideous news for a Monday.

Next thing you know Michael Bay will be remaking 'The Philadelphia Story' with Chris Pine and Shia LeWhatever fighting over Megan Fox. Only it'll be set in SoCal and have more explosions. 'The Pasadena Story'?!?

I would go for Long Beach.

The "Conan" remake in the works is the most unnecessary thing ever anywhere thisisnotopetodebate.

I see this as a great Christopher Walken vehicle.

"Only this time, the audience is in on the fantasy! They SEE the rabbit!! We're talking to Bugs Bunny!!"

I'm going to quote you, but with no attribution. HAH. WILD WEST INTERNET STYLE

I can't wait for the scene where the rabbit tells him to build a baseball stadium in the middle of a cornfield.

Spielberg + Tom Hanks and/or Will Smith = recipe for film I won't see

yes. fuck off, tom hanks.

Why not give it an action-adventure buddy-movie kind of spin? I'd put Vin Diesel in the Stewart role, and voice the rabbit / sensei part with Cynthia Rothrock.

This must be stopped.

Zac Efron will be simply delightful in this.
