There's not much of a point in getting upset about remakes of classic movies; you might as well accept that it's going to happen and remind yourself that whatever new spin is put on a treasured favorite, it doesn't in any way diminish the original. Still, I'm a little, I dunno, peeved by the news that Steven Spielberg is looking to remake Harvey, the classic Donnie Darko precursor which sits right up there near the top of my personal ten best list. Variety suggests Tom Hanks and Will Smith are being approached to fill Jimmy Stewart's shoes-and really, could it be anyone other than Hanks? Viggo Mortensen, perhaps-but whoever winds up doing it, there's no way they'll come anywhere near Stewart's indelible performance. And on that, you may quote me.
