Cartoon Censored For Wrong Reason

Ow, my sides! The Washington Post has chosen not to run the current series of comic strip "Tank McNamara" because it includes "a storyline in which – for some reason – Dick Cheney advises NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to kill quarterback Michael Vick." (See it here.) This raises a very important question: Are there any regular daily newspaper comics that are actually funny these days? I'm genuinely curious. Also, say "Mallard Fillmore" and die.

Why not Bil Keane?

My Number Is My Address

Aptly synergized with the Willy deVille post.

"Lio" and "Cul-de-Sac" are pretty funny.

And didn't Scocca & MacLeod always love "One Big Happy"?

They should have just compared the current President to simian, it would have gotten through no problem.

The one where Beetle Bailey violates the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy with Sgt. Snorkel is pretty good.

honestly, i read this, and thought "Oh, Josh will just have some amazing things to say on this topic!" But, you know, promoting your website is important, too. Definitely. Important.

Garfield Minus Garfield is a site dedicated to removing Garfield from the Garfield comic strips in order to reveal the existential angst of a certain young Mr. Jon Arbuckle. It is a journey deep into the mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against loneliness and depression in a quiet American suburb.

"Pearls Before Swine" has a nice whiff of absurdism to it.

And while we can't go there: who most completely un-comicked their strip, Bruce Tinsley or Johnny Hart?

You guys are probably reading Hi and Lois and The Born Loser all wrong.

I find 'Mark Trail' to have a certain deadpan humor akin to Andy Kaufman.

Get Fuzzy has the hilarious antics of talking pets. It's always the first one I look at, and often makes me laugh foreal.

Cathy, however, needs to be taken out behind the woodshed and put out of her/my misery. Bitch can really bring a spinster down, knowwhutImean?

Pearls Before Swine. Also have to plug Marmaduke Explaned http://marmadukeexplained.blogspot.com/ Though it's not in a daily, it's damn funny.

Beetle Bailey elicited a genuine laugh from me about a month ago:

Bizarro is amusing, as is Pardon My Planet. And who can overlook the darkly funny, suburban sturm und drang of Sally Forth? JUST KIDDING. That joke was about as funny as Sally Forth itself.
