"Much has been said about the death of the album at the hands of the MP3. Certainly, pop music's center is no longer the album but the freestanding song, however many good or great albums may be released now or in the future. And there's been a seeming knock-on effect with albums themselves: They've been getting noticeably shorter for the last 10 years or so."

So it's not the size of the file, it's the motion of the click-wheel.
Which is to say, songs are now re-approaching the length they had when technology (i.e., the amount of audio you could fit on a vinyl single) controlled their length. I'm not sure I have a problem with this, generally.
But Apple is going to revitalize the digital album! (or so they say) http://www.leaderpost.com/technology/Apple+working+digital+albums+tablet+sources/1837747/story.html
So when will blog posts start getting shorter again?
So everyone's accepting the reality that nobody really listened to more than 4 cuts from any one album?
it still somehow pleases me that song 6 or 7 on most cds is awesome. y'know, cos that's the start of the b-side. that has next to nothing to do with the topic, i know.
