Struggling Networks To Turn TVs Into Mirrors
How can the networks boost their faltering ratings? By putting more lardasses on TV! But they've got to be sensitive in the way they portray their tubby demographic; contrary to popular opinion, not all fat people are jolly. Ad Age looks at the problem.
With the reality that two-thirds of Americans are overweight or obese, according to government data, it makes sense that they — and their stories — are better reflected on network TV. But despite the inspirational, life-changing challenge of 'The Biggest Loser,' some critics say overweight characters are often portrayed simply as losers, which may alienate some of the very people the networks need to reach to regain their commercial, let alone their cultural, heft.
Seriously, don't piss these people off. They will eat you.

I thought the whole point of TV was for losers to watch attractive people leading interesting lives? Or have I been watching television for the wrong reasons?
I like to watch "Ruby" and "You Are What You Eat" does that mean I am attractive and have an interesting life?
I'd love to watch a show about you.
Nerdy girly aside: OMG I watch Ruby too! If only for the occasional appearances by one of the Sweet Valley High Twins and to hear Ruby make up bizarre-yet-adorable words to avoid swearing or using anatomical words. And I hate her ex-bf. I could go on!
Sorry, back to thinking critically about that Rwanda article now.

Oh goddamn browser problems, I'm going to go home and watch The Hills instead.
Great ad on the side for a cream that makes you tan AND thin.
