Signs Of Recovery Amid Political And Economic Difficulties

There's a ton of actual news today, which is particularly unusual for a summer Friday. For instance, the New York State Senate is back in business, GM is out of bankruptcy, the other GM has returned to a pageview bonus system, and over in Iran-WAIT, BREAKING! ABC News has cleared Barack Obama of ass-gazing! They've got video and everything!

What a relief! It was actually the sleazy Frenchman rather than the American President who was captivated by that erection-provoking ass, an ass so exquisite that its sheer grandeur is enough to drive the most strong-willed of men to untold distraction. Oh my God, you guys, THAT ASS.

Sigh. It's gonna be a long day, isn't it?

It all still looks like it belongs in the dumper to me.

ABC debuted this clip around 3 a.m., so I can testify to his complete innocence-- those watching it for the first time on this teensy player will perhaps not be moved to absolution, given the frame is too small to show the step in question. To say nothing of the magnificence of that ass writ large.

I wonder, though, if his rectitude in this case is not somewhat disappointing?

I have confidence that my President is skilled enough to have seen the ass without giving the appearance of looking at it. Guy knows what he's doing.

an assward gaze without aid of sunglasses - that's a skill that any well-travelled man must acquire ...

Haha, 'the other GM.' NOT Grand Marnier. The OTHER other GM. That took a second.

'“Just having the numbers in public â€" and so prominently displayed â€" is enough to motivate any egomaniac writer,” Denton told me.'

My God the passive aggression! The man truly is a marvel to behold!

There was so much wonderful in that piece. "Two things are certain: Media ethicists will decry that practice, and Denton won’t care." I think I'm rekindling my love affair with Mister Denton.

There's also irony (or somesuch) that Gawker's reintroduced a pay-per-pageview system while debuting a comment system that makes it impossible to view individual site pages on my office's outdated browsers.

(Not that I'm spending much time over there, what with my Awl-surfing and purchase-making.)

Surely we can find a way to work "skin in the game" into this Obama/ass nontroversy, no? Because that's one term I used to never hear, skin in the game, and now, it seems skin-in-the-game is used in every. single. press conference and article. Again, that's "skin in the game."

Both GMs mentioned here run entirely on gas; and both are whistling past the graveyard.

Plus, a runner was gored to death this morning in Pamplona. First time in a long time. Having done the San Fermin multiple times, I can see that all the typical danger signs were there. Bull separated from the pack, turned around backwards, confused and alone. In that situation, panic sets in and havoc is unleashed. 9 were gored, one fatally. Collapsed lung and pierced neck. All the Spaniards were quick to tell me that the Americans were the worst runners, but this poor soul dispatched today was from Madrid.

In the morning, all the steers and bulls are run through the town into the ring, where they are all slaughtered in the afternoon. Pamplona is unlike any other venue. In Madrid or Mexico City, it's as quiet as Wimbledon in July, but in Pamplona there are rival "gangs" dressed in mock uniforms, all with crazy bands playing loudly (I recall a mocking rendition of "Living on a prayer" with the entire stadium singing along in drunken revelry as a bull was put down and the matador was permitted to cut off an ear to honor the bull and his own performance).

It's not policitally correct, but I have to admit that I desperately wish I could be in the stands today with the specatators and the bands when the murdering bull is brought out to meet its fate.

If we all chip in, we can probably buy one of those Cube thingys, though all I can afford is a sugar cube.
