This one gets me more than all the other deaths this past week.
Shall never forget my first view of Cafe Mueller at BAM back in the 80s. And a few years later, my personal political battle with the wrongness of her piece set in 3-inch deep water on BAM's grand opera stage — during a drought, no less (wrong, my conscience told me), versus my respect for her ability to get whatever insane surface she wanted (wow, audacious! and she's a woman! my aspiring self said).
And the obits said she'd only been diagnosed within the week. Live fast.
She was brilliant. I got to watch her troupe workshop Le Sacre du Printemps — it was amazing.
Weird week. This made me laugh though.
