But Barack Obama is the POTUS.
The title transcends - is more powerful than - any one man's name.

What about the last eight years, when POTUS was actually one letter longer than the president's name? Typical liberal, ignoring the great things George W. Bush has done for this country, with his name shortness.

yes, but following this suggestion we will simply retire the term "president of the united states" and replace it with the less-history-friendly "OBAMA".

People above me covered the most salient points, so the things I'm now obligated to comment on are 1) the masterful bracket/parenthetical combo and 2) how quickly you jumped on that tweet.

Does anyone actually think that those bothering to read, say, Peggy Noonan's thoughts for July 2009, 100 years from now (ACADEMICS!) wouldn't get that abbreviation? C'mon.

Also. Is it ironic to "tweet" thi, speaking of things that won;t be relevant 100 years from now?

But where do we stand on SCOTUS?

My inner teenage boy will never not giggle at that one.

YourDoctrinaire

Yeah, but you can't say that. You have to say PRESIDENT Obama. Check your AP style book...or burn it, whatevs.

Heck with that. Try explaining to someone in a hundred years--twenty?--what the fuck people were doing when they spent all their time "tweeting."

Do I hear ten?

Clarence Rosario

I give it four.

what is 'tweeting' --

Also, I presume that this sentiment was what drove people to abandon FLOTUS for FLIRG during the Clinton administration?

I hate all those -OTUS abbreviations with a passion.
