Last night in Los Angeles, Manny Ramirez hit a grand slam that helped his team to victory. But the significance of the dinger was not just about wins and losses. No, this was a historic event: "The four runs Ramirez drove in with that single stroke in his pinch-hit at-bat did more than break a sixth-inning tie and send the Dodgers on their way to a 6-2, sweep-sealing victory over the Cincinnati Reds. The home run off reliever Nick Masset, the first long ball ever hit by a Dodger on his bobblehead night, turned the ballpark into a madhouse."

Oh for fucking out loud, fucking sports writers and their fucking insistence on creating new and fucking absurd stats.
And that's when I clicked close tab.
Dear Mr. Cho,
When is the Awl Store coming online? I want a Balk bobblehead and a Choire bobblehead and an Emily bobblehead, and Doree, and a Mr. Hippity bobblehead, and....
Its spring is juiced.
It really was kind of a cool moment. Pinch hit, into the area of the stands called Mannywood, off a reliever brought in to face him, on his bobblehead night with a bruised hand. Plus, it gave the Dodgers pitcher (Billingsley) the win since it broke the tie. Glad I switched the game on for a bit before going to sleep (east coast). Also, I had no idea how many grand slams he had hit, something like 21, two behind the all-time record (I think held by Mantle?)
Addendum: Sports on the Awl?!
Gehrig, not Mantle
"I don't believe what the first 20,000 fans entering the ballpark just saw!"
