In case you missed it over the weekend, here is some time-lapse photography of the Manhattan Bridge bending and shaking as trucks and trains go over it. Scary? Yeah, probably. But also a good excuse, should you need one, to decline an invitation to DUMBO. (More here.)

Ummmm - if it didn't move, it'd break (this is simple physics people!)
This is news?
I thought this was destroyed in one of the Spiderman movies. I've been taking the Brooklyn Bridge ever since!
What happens if I get invited to DUBBO?
Guess what? All those skyscrapers bend too!
Dear People of New York Who Never Experience Earthquakes,
We never thought we'd have a chance to say this to you, but... ya'll are pussies.

Dear People of San Francisco Who Never Experience Culture,
We *do* have earthquakes here. We had one shortly after 9/11. And you really should drag your hippie asses over here and call us pussies to our faces. Plus, we have bagels.

The shaking is fine. It's the train tracks on the outside of the bridge - away from where the load should be born - that scares the ghee out of me.
Unfortunately, the closest train to Dumbo is the F to York Street, no? Which means to use the bridge excuse, you'd have to be all like, "I only take cars and that bridge is fucking terrifying," or alternately, "I'm scared I will die on my fixed-gear, which...would be tragic." Lose-lose situation.
I asked my sister, an architect in CA, and she said, Yep -- pretty much all structures need to be able to move.
