If you wanted to know where my grandparents (who were not famous) were staying in Manhattan in June 1936 the Times could tell you (The St. Regis). If you wanted morbid details about mob killings and car accidents, the Times was there. Celebrity deathwatch? Times. Of course you had to go to the other papers for pictures of any of this.
