Doctor Who's New Look Sets British Pulses Racing

by Balk posted @1:41 PM

One of these people is probably Dr. Who

The full picture is a portrait frame – looking at their legs completely makes the look. Smith's ankle-height leather boots, giving a modern flourish to the tweed, the combination together placing him spiritually a lot closer to modern day Hoxton. And they've given Karen a miniskirt, grey tights and red sneakers (plucked from Tennant's shivering corpse, we wonder?)

There is something oddly endearing about the British fascination with "Doctor Who." This level of analysis, all over a full-length picture of the new cast members of the long-running science fiction series about a doctor and a telephone booth (just guessing; I've never seen one) is both hysterical and adorable. You Britons are for sure the cutest!

Ugh, I do not yet like this new Doctor! I do not see the magic therein!

And shut up, Doctor Who is really good.

      Indeed.

Tennant seems almost impossible to replace…unless, say, Tom Baker wanted to come back.

Actually, I wish Davies/Moffat/BBC had the balls to have named the first female Doctor. Alas.

How old is this new Doctor, anyway? I cannot be, like, 15 years older than Doctor Who. Not without craving death, anyway.

Well, I think he's nerdilicious! I'm a little worried about the bow tie thing, though. I don't want to be thinking about Tucker Carlson or George Will whilst enjoying a good romp through space and time, what ho. But that's a very American coding (bow tie = Republican pundit douche), so I doubt they would have even thought of that, and I'm sure it won't actually be a problem when it comes to it.

Also, I'm going to say something incredibly dangerous and subversive: I like Nine waaaaaaaay more than I ever liked Ten. In fact, I kinda can't stand David Tennant. Now, do your worst!

Friends who work on Doctor Who assure me that this new guy is really excellent, and brings a whole new dimension to the character.

(But I'm worried that that dimension is "teenager.")

Grey leggings with red converse sneakers? I don't know…

Then again the Doctor's sexless companions are nothing if not fashion victims.

For a second I thought the red-haired lass was going to be the next Doctor. That would have been fun!

I like how the Guardian article is inferring COMPLETE ZANINESS from the fact that one of the characters is named "Pond." I really can't comment further because it makes so little sense to me.

Tom Baker was the non plus ultra of Drs. Who.

What I want is art of a retooled Dalek.

You haven't been around many Trekkers or BSG fans, Balk, if you think this is a uniquely British thing. Though, admittedly, it's more of a big deal to the British culture at large than even Trekkers at their height were. It has something to do spending one's childhood behind the sofa, scared of cardboard-and-packing-peanuts "monsters."

I would love it if actually this isn't their costume, at least not from the waist down. They were only shooting close ups, you see, and the actors were allowed to wear whatever shoes they felt most comfortable in.
