Zambia's Funniest Home Videos
Just because, please enjoy this video of Zambian president Rupiah Banda being showered by a monkey during a press conference. "You have urinated on my jacket," Banda told the monkey before suggesting that he would give the primate to the leader of Zambia's opposition party "for lunch." Hopefully my posting this video is not some kind of foreshadowing of the tenor of the day, but I've been in this business long enough to know not to make any promises.
That's SO funny because the back window of my truck has an awesome sticker of Calvin peeing on Rupiah Banda!
This is why Obama moved his press conference indoors at the last minute the other day. Unless you're in a totally controlled environment, you never know who or what is going to pee on you.
I would prefer this to be today's Awl tenor rather than Choire's "Life is meaningless and all of us will be garbage someday" tune in this morning's email. I only like getting existential on Mondays.
I, for one, appreciate Choire's providing an idea I hadn't tried yet for the distribution of my novel.
In the old days of repressive African regimes, the monkey would have been whipped and tortured. But this is a new day, a new Africa. Dissent — even in the amorphous form of a warm stream of monkey urine — is now de facto, not de rigeur.
