Rebekah Wade Will Shake Up News International

Spouse-beating Sun editor Rebekah Wade has been named the chief executive of News International, in which capacity she will be responsible for overseeing News Corp's British daily papers (News of the World, the Sun, the Times and the Sunday Times). When it predicted the move back in March, the Guardian saw it as a way to groom James Murdoch as his father Rupert's eventual successor; the news today has the younger Murdoch remaining in Wapping, News International's headquarters as executive chairman. No matter what it means for the future of News Corp, Wade, who will report to James Murdoch, will surely be able to beat the papers into shape, battering inefficiency and leading the assault on rival organizations.
