Spotted, just now, in the sky above The Awl offices: a brightish spherical object that appears to be emitting some sort of heat and perhaps light. UFO? Bizarre promotional stunt? Or... something more sinister? It's impossible to tell at this early stage, but we will continue to monitor the situation and update you if things change.

Oh for the love of G-d, don't let it be The Rapture on a Monday morning.
I'm taking shelter in the subway.
It is the spectre of Keith Gesson's cat, come to take Pareene's soul.

It's called "The Sun" -- I think.
Whatever it is, I'm fine with it until it starts smelling like maple syrup.
HELIOS!! RUN!!
If you offer it something like a child or a cat perhaps it will keep coming back.
Not in Boston. I've been offering my neighbor's cat to the heavens but we haven't seen that sucker for weeks.
No matter. It has long since disappeared.
We had a similar phenomena occur yesterday. It caused frightened people to gather at the lakeside in inappropriatly small clothing, burn meat offerings on portable altars and play evil dissonant music imploring the listener to just dance. The horror.
josh_speed thanks for the smile! Too funny!
Ummm yep, that's what's called "The Sun"...keep an eye on it though, never know what might be hiding behind it...some squirrely insectoid mothership maybe...could be!!
