Bill Maher Driving Me Crazy With Smarmy Correctness

Cheered by the semi-viral response to his tirade against Barack Obama last week, smarmy fuck Bill Maher goes back to the well, this time taking on the Democratic party as a whole. It is, once again, immensely frustrating: the fucking smarm is off the goddamn charts, and yet... he makes several absolutely correct points. This has got to stop. I cannot be the guy at the end of the bar who goes, "Yeah, but did you see Bill Maher the other night? Smarmy fuck made a lot of sense!"

Bill Maher may be correct, but he's still a smarmy f*ck. They kind of balance each other out.

Being correct and being smarmy are not mutually exclusive. In fact, most people, when they are right about something important, are going to be annoyingly smug about it. And why not? Haven't they earned it? Fuck it, Maher can be as smarmy as he wants because it's not fair that only the people who are generally wrong about most things get to use up the majority of the world's smarm.

This Current TV video is interesting for the last portion which becomes a sort of Bill Maher cribs episode and is really awkward.

I find the fact that the audience cheered the loudest when he mentioned legalizing pot the most annoying thing about the clip.

While some of us may have been lulled into liking him during the Bush years, Bill Maher is in fact an a-ideological nihilist whose sole goals are to bang video chicks and make himself look good.

That was going to be an insult when I started writing it, but I guess those are more or less my goals, as well.

I finally watched the earlier clip. If it makes you feel better, he's wrong. It's such a typical media insider response. Why are you making us cover your lunch for 90 minutes in the middle of a newsday?! Why won't you let us stop re-running the fly thing for a week straight?! Clearly your fault...and if you don't want constant televised attention, you can try to be as bland as possible in public or limit the press following some (which would cause endless shit fits).

The media stuff under his control are the speeches and interviews. There's an argument to be made that he's done to many of those, though considering the big-pill nature of some of them (i.e. healthcare), he owes it to congressional Dems to sweeten the pill.

Bill Maher is wrong about everything except for the awesomeness of Supahead.

Funny, I watched Religulous over the weekend, and thought exactly the same thing.
