It was a good read only because it's a pretty interesting story all around. You wouldn't be able to write like this about any trial or given subject. Still it's a good read, which I suppose is what's important.

Beg to disagree. The headline's duller than plywood. Part one, indeed.
This is a murder trial and it's "terrible" because it brings people together?? Give me a break.
I knew nothing about this murder or this trial before reading this, and I still only know very little about it, though I was treated to some jejune descriptions of how the father's looked.
I have a feeling that if I did know all about this trial, the article would have been even more boring to read.
The facts are way more interesting than Nat's desultory observations. She needs a hard editor to tell her like it is, not a pack of sycophants…

This synopsis of court testimony reads like a cracker jack novel. If Court TV had one ounce of the finesse that you've shown here, I'd be watching it right now.

Nice hard boiled article. This story has always reminded me of the soul-sucking film Bully. I think Larry Clark would have handled the film Alpha Dog with a more appropriate amount of dread and despair.
