Gordon Brown Goes Goth Or Something

George Michael? Sting? It's driving me CRAZY.In October of '07, a private shipping company lost two discs containing the names, addresses, and national insurance numbers of 25 million Britons, including everyone under the age of 16, in the mail. In June of '08, a senior intelligence officer left top secret files on al Qaeda in Pakistan and the security situation in Iraq on a train. Just last month the nation's most powerful counterterrorism officer was forced to step down after inadvertently revealing details of a major operation to press and photographers as he stepped out of his car. Given all of this, the revelation that an aide to beleaguered Prime Minister Gordon Brown left a list of tips on how to pretty up the PM-lots of powder and bronzer-in a taxi seems to be just another episode in the nonstop tragicomedy that Brown's premiership has become. In any event, we're mainly writing this so we can ask about the picture here: It looks like something, but I'm damned if I can figure it out. Choire suggested Peter Murphy, which seems right, and I was thinking some kind of Stephen Duffy photo-shut up, the Lilac Time was great-but neither of those seem to work. Any ideas?

Somehow I doubt "Albert Finney donning his David Lynch wig" was on the tip of your tongue

I'm thinking more of someone doing the hair-sweep gesture, but that's actually pretty good.

The first thing I thought of was Ian McCullough of Echo and the Bunnymen: http://members.cox.net/nonstoppop/ianmcculloch.jpg

(And please let me make it very clear that it's not often that Ian McCullough is the first thing I think of.)

It's a typical warmup exercise from a Creative Movement class at H.B. Studios.

David Lynch's FBI agent on Twin Peaks. (But Ian McCullough is good too!)

Isn't he busy being engaged to Mandy Moore?

whoops, godwin's law. in some fictional portrayals of hitler, don't they show him straightening his hair like that?

in my head i'm seeing a scene where someone does something angry/violent then kind of stands up a bit and straightens his hair like that.

Ian McKellen in Richard III. Alright, not what anyone was thinking but me.
