A Story About Chemo, Insurance And Moms

Here's a fine how-do-you-do: "My mom received an $800 bill for one session of chemo the other day in the mail that said her insurance wasn't going to cover the treatment due to 'a lack of information.'"

The obvious response is to take the bill, write INFORMATION: I HAVE CANCER across it, and mail it back to the insurance company.

The point is terrifying. There are a hell of a lot of us who will NOT have any health care for our declining years--or, God forbid, those years when we're supposed to be healthy and aren't. Not to mention your general oil changes, tune-ups, and vet care for the kiddies.

It's part and parcel of the nagging need for a rearrangement of what happens to the wealth around here. Capitalists may posit market theories.

I'll hunt for the nearest speeding bus when life gets too expensive.

How's this for something that relates to cancer: Meridith Vierra (sp?) on Today just said: "So rare in fact that some are now calling 'anal cancer' 'Farrah cancer'."

Is her insurance company Cigna?

formerly it takes a lot etc.

They love to do that shit - anything to delay payment and hope that you just don't pursue it with them.

I had a knee replaced, and another surgery coming up. My insurance -- Kaiser -- denied me equipment because it was "only for pain" and therefore not required medically. I'd like to give them some pain!

For this I've paid tens of thousands of dollars for health insurance over the years.

Put that single payer option on the table, Barack!
