The Pixies Deluxe Box Set

by Choire posted @10:01 AM

They're baaaackThis summer, for 450 bucks, you will be able to buy the complete catalog of The Pixies in one set. Yes, all five (5!) albums, on 180 gram vinyl and 24k layered CD. That would be almost $100 an album, says mathematics. They aren't being remastered, since they are already perfect, and no live audio recordings are being added. Or, since you already have it all on mp3, you could just not buy it.

Yeah, but is it *colored* vinyl?

Vinyl is the new Beanie Babies, or the new 401(k). Whichever way.

Did you ever have a mint copy of Dave Mason's "Alone Together"?

    Thought not.

It looked like a bowling ball. Don't know what happened to mine.
    Oh — yes I do.

About this: so That's not happening.

Box sets. I want the Pixies to do something against the grain, like they did when they were together. Not just issue more weird photographs using 1980s Cooper Union graphic design techniques. Like issue each song on a piece of paper, that is played by a music box that plays paper strips. Or issue all the MP3s, but have them all play backwards. Or something.

    And, I love them.

there *is* a new breeders ep out today, though. i'm just saying. (the title track is very good, in a pod kinda way.)

I don't know if New York's infrastructure will be able to handle the mess when 10,000 29-year-olds in Williamsburg collectively crap themselves with joy.

The guy I took cello lessons from as a kid later played on "This Monkey's Gone to Heaven." He also helped Black Francis write the the string arrangement.

So I'm one degree of separation from the Pixies! Or maybe two degrees … how does that work again?
